Thomas H. Ryou

Mr. Thomas H. Ryou, Esq., is an attorney/owner of Ryou Law in Washington, DC. He is a lawyer licensed in California and Washington D.C. He earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology from The Pennsylvania State University, and his Juris Doctorate from the Villanova University School of Law.

Mr. Ryou worked in San Francisco from 1997 to 2001 as a corporate lawyer at Gordon & Rees, LLP, where he counseled Silicon Valley tech companies with startup formalities, managing risk, debt and convertible finance, private placement equity finance, and intellectual property.

From 2001 to 2006, Mr. Ryou moved to Korea and taught U.S. and international intellectual property law as an associate professor at the TLBU Graduate School of Law in Seoul. In 2004, he published the legal casebook, Intellectual Property Law of Trade and Services. He was invited to speak at symposiums and conferences in Vienna, Austria, Beijing, China and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He presented The Applicability of International Intellectual Property Principles and Policies to Chinese Medicine at the China Intellectual Property Symposium in Beijing, July 2004; presented at the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) symposium on New Challenges to International Laws and Relations in the Internet Age in Seoul, October 2004; and was published in December 2004 by the KISDI, an agency under the Office of the Prime Minister of Korea.

Returning to the United States, Mr. Ryou worked at Patton Boggs, LLP in Washington D.C. from 2007 to 2009. While at Patton Boggs, he represented the Republic of Cameroon and other countries seeking developmental aid and assistance. He worked with administrative agencies, multinational corporations, and economic development entities. He assisted clients with government contracts, mergers and acquisitions, trade policy projects, software licensing, trademark registration, domain name disputes, and privacy law issues.

From 2009 to 2013, Mr. Ryou was an attorney at HCPA, an intellectual property law boutique assisting clients with trademark prosecution, patent licensing, intellectual property litigation, and ITC investigations.

From 2014-present, Mr. Ryou has run his own law practice in Washington D.C. assisting international clients with business and intellectual property matters.
