Jongwon Park (박종원)

Mr. Jongwon “JP” Park is Vice President of Starburst Aerospace. JP has over 20 years of experience in diverse aspects of the innovation ecosystem, often serving as a bridge connecting Silicon Valley with Washington DC. Most recently, JP led a global growth of a cybersecurity startup — a Starburst portfolio company. He is currently leading the global launch of the Korean cybersecurity startup, bringing venture capital investment, developing market channels, conducting customer discovery, and complying with U.S. government regulations. He previously worked on the design, implementation, and management of a high-tech startup accelerator in the Washington DC area. JP led a consulting group at SRI International (formerly known as Stanford Research Institute), providing tailored advice on the management of research and innovation activities at public and private organizations. He is an instructor of the lean startup method and served as a mentor to startup founders commercializing government technology through Fed Tech Studio.

Mr. Jongwon Park is Chief Strategy Officer, EYL Inc., a position he has held since 2017. He has also been a Certified Lean Startup Entrepreneurship Instructor at George Washington University since 2016. He served as Associate Director, Senior Analyst, and Analyst at the Center for Science, Technology, and Economic Development at SRI International from 2002 to 2015, and as Senior Research Fellow at the Center for International Science and Technology Policy at the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University, from 2008 to 2015.

As an expert in entrepreneurship, business model development, technology commercialization, university-industry collaboration, and innovation policy, he works with startups, research institutes, corporations, and universities to improve research and innovation capacity, and with governments at the local, regional, and national level to enhance the economic impact of their investments in research and innovation. He has a deep understanding of the challenges growing innovation ecosystem at the regional, national, and international levels in the U.S., East Asia, and the Middle East. He served as Special Advisor to the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Korea in 2012.

Mr. Jongwon JP Park has a BS in Physic from Korea University in Seoul and is an ABD at the School of Public Policy of Georgia Institute of Technology (1997-2001). He has conducted many funded research and projects. He is a prolific writer of research articles and organized various Research and Innovation Management Training workshops at numerous institutions and countries including the one for the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST).
